WPS 2018: Call for conveners
For the 5th Wageningen PhD Symposium entitled “Bridging Science and Society: Unifying Knowledge” on the 17th of May 2018 (at Wageningen Campus: Orion), we are looking for conveners that will organize either the Oral presentation sessions or Round table discussion sessions:

A. Oral presentation sessions:
1. Technology and Innovation
1.1. Impact of novel technologies in science
1.2. Future technologies and their challenges
2. From Fundamental to Application
2.1 The importance of transdisciplinary research
2.2 Research with application perspective
3. Society matters
3.1 Achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs) by scientific research
3.2 Research for a purpose: solution oriented social sciences
B. Round table discussion sessions:

Technology, innovation and society: What tangible benefits society can gain from technology an innovation?
-
How to reach societal relevance with your research: What are the steps/activities needed to bridge science and society?
-
Science with and for society: What are the potential implications and societal expectations with regard to research?

As a convener, your tasks will be as followed:
Before the symposium
- You will invite people for your session (oral or round table discussion) by selecting presentations from the submitted abstracts
During the symposium
- You will be in charge of introducing the theme and the speakers of your session
- You will mediate questions and answers for each talk
- You will evaluate oral and poster presentations
Notes
- You have free access to the symposium including lunch
- You can give an oral presentation yourself or to participate in the round table discussion session

Please send an e-mail to committee.phdsymposium@wur.nl if you would like (alone or as a group of two) to convene a session, mentioning your name, e-mail address, chair group, graduate school and the session you would like to convene by 29th of March 2018. Additionally, please send us by email a motivation letter (no longer than one page in a Word document) and your CV, so we can have a better idea of your background and interests.
